Even though we didn’t yet have a driver’s license, let alone a car, when we were 13 or 14 years old, Pimp My Ride was our absolute favorite show. The MTV classic with cult presenter Xzibit taught us a lot about tuning, cars and Co. Admittedly, this acquired knowledge didn’t really help us in the driving school …
But nevertheless we would have really missed something if the following 8 things would have remained hidden from us!
1. The engine is a minor matter
Did you know that in all these years Pimp My Ride has not had a single engine tuned? In the show, Xzibit and his crew were only concerned with ‘cosmetic’ improvements, changing the interior, the paint job and so on! But hey, at least everything stayed within the legal limits of what was possible!
2. Rims are everything
If already the engine cannot convince, then please the rims! That seems to have been the motto of the show, because there is no other way to explain the – let’s say – interesting selection of oversized and crazy rims. Strictly according to the motto: More is more. We like!
3. Your car is only as good as your mini-bar
In felt all episodes an extra could not be missing in the interior design: The mini fridge! After all, there’s nothing better than driving off into the sunset with a cold lemonade. No, but seriously: Why haven’t car manufacturers copied this gadget more often?
4. The more screens, the better
A screen in a car is pretty cool in real life, but the makers of Pimp My Ride were extra ambitious: A car has to have at least five screens to get through the PMR-TÜV. It might be overdone, but we were always a little envious!
5. Inventor of Color-Blocking
The show was always particularly exciting when it came to painting: Blue with red stripes? Pink and glittering? We were surprised every time and learned one crucial thing: It can never be colorful enough! We therefore appoint Xzibit and his crew as the original trendsetters of the color-blocking hype!
6. I’m all about that bass
A simple car radio? In the “Pimp My Ride” world, it’s like Monopoly money compared to real money: Totally unacceptable! That’s why the crew always built in the best, craziest sound systems on the market – and thus made the cars not only real one-offs, but also mobile nightclubs!
7. Xbox somehow always goes
If there is a mini fridge with snacks and drinks, the installation of a game console is of course also obvious. And since one is not enough, you are welcome to install two! After all, it could be that your best friend comes along and wants to play something different than you do – in the car, of course, because where would you rather play?
8. Hot car, hot exhaust
In the tuning world, the exhaust is the icing on the cake – even with Pimp My Ride! Flames, smoke, little flying unicorns? For the crew of the MTV show, everything is child’s play. In retrospect, however, this usually had to be undone – after all, everything is supposed to comply with the regulations!
